PHOTOGRAPHY ADVENTURE VACATIONS

Arizona

Sedona, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe, Lake Powell

Amsterdam.html
Australia-Sunshine-Coast.html

Stunning orange, red and natural sandstone formations await you.

Arizona Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Sedona is a magical oasis surrounded by red-rock monoliths named Coffeepot, Cathedral and Thunder Mountain. This stunning array of red sandstone formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. At the north end of the city is the stunning Oak Creek Canyon, a breathtaking chasm that is wildly wonderful. Nestled in the Verde Valley, this was home to the Native American Yavapai and Apache tribes. Antelope Canyon, two hours north of Sedona is on Navajo land and includes two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack; and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew. These are the most photographed slot canyons in the American Southwest. It’s been said that it’s impossible to take a bad photograph in Arizona, and we have to agree. In addition to these two gems are the wonders of Lake Powell, Horseshoe Canyon and of course, the Grand Canyon.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the stunning beauty of Arizona’s red rock country!

ARIZONA 6 DAYS

Sunday (1)  Scottsdale - Sedona

We meet on Sunday morning at our resort hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques. After lunch we depart for Sedona and our 6 day adventure. After checking into our hotel, you are free to explore and photograph. In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Sedona restaurants. (D)

Monday (2)  Sedona - Oak Creek Canyon

On Monday after breakfast we visit nearby Oak Creek Canyon and concentrate on moving river and waterfall photography. After a picnic lunch and discussion overlooking the canyon, we make our way back to Sedona to photograph the red-rock monoliths named Coffeepot, Cathedral and Thunder Mountain. Later in the evening we gather for a wonderful Native American dinner, but not before photographing the sunset from a ridge with a stunning and majestic panoramic view. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Sedona - Antelope Canyon

On Tuesday we leave early for our trek north to the town of Page and Antelope Canyon, arriving at Antelope Canyon (also known as a slot canyon) when the light is best. The canyon is on Navajo land, where we will be treated to a private guided Hummer tour. The experience inside these canyons is quite impressive, with the endless shafts of light beaming through from above. While on Navajo land we will attempt to arrange some photo sessions with the elders of the tribe. After our hotel check-in in Page, Arizona we will spend the evening concentrating on soft light photography. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Lake Powell - Horseshoe Canyon

On day four we set out for an early morning boat ride on Lake Powell where you will be treated to some stunning and spectacular photo ops. After an afternoon back at the hotel reviewing images and discussing post processing techniques, we’re off to a sunset shoot of Horseshoe Canyon where the Colorado River runs through this huge 180 degree canyon. (B)

Thursday (5)  Grand Canyon - Flagstaff

On Thursday morning after breakfast we review some of the week’s work and discuss workflow and editing techniques. After checkout we head south to Grand Canyon National Park for some amazing photography. Afterwards we arrive at our hotel in Flagstaff for our final evening together and our “Farewell Dinner”, filled with great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Friday (6)  Flagstaff - Scottsdale

On day six, we have our final group discussion, review our favorite photos, trade contact information and prepare for our drive south to Phoenix where we will bid you farewell. We urge you to extend your stay in Arizona or elsewhere in the Southwest and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
