Where stunning rivers and mountains tattoo the surface.

British Columbia Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Beautiful British Columbia - The Best Place on Earth. That’s what the license plates say on the cars here. And a visit to Canada’s west coast city will have you believing that very quickly. British Columbia has so much to offer, with it’s natural beauty, stunning scenery and relaxed lifestyle. If you get the chance to spend time in British Columbia, you’ll experience a city commonly known as the best city in the world to live in, mountain getaways a short drive from the city, a surfer’s paradise, and city parks that are the envy of the world.

Join us this summer, and let us show you how the BC residents enjoy the great outdoors. Let us take you to the peaks of Whistler mountain, the wind-swept coast of Vancouver Island, historic Gastown and British influenced Victoria. You’ll come away with a sense of wonder - you’ll wonder when you can book your next trip.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than in British Columbia.

Sunday (1)  Vancouver

Upon arrival in the beautiful city of Vancouver, Canada’s 3rd largest city, you will instantly see why it is considered one of the best cities in the world in which to live. With a location nestled along the west coast of Canada in the Coast Mountains, Vancouver offers a lifestyle that is unmatched anywhere in Canada. We will check in to our hotel in downtown Vancouver and after a brief discussion about what we will see over the week, we will head out to take in some of the beauty that this city has to show. We will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “The Art of Seeing” photographic technique. We will also have informal discussions about what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques. Our first practical use of these theories will be exercised when we journey through Granville Island on the Vancouver False Creek waterfront. (D)

Monday (2)  Vancouver

Vancouver has so many beautiful areas to photograph, it’s hard to see it all. Today we will spend our time discovering the city from it’s waterfront areas, and from historic Gastown. As the day winds down, we will take the opportunity to photograph the city skyline from the vast Stanley Park, Vancouver’s inner city oasis. After dinner in one of the city’s renowned seafood restaurants, we will have a chat about the photographs we’ve shot so far, and share techniques. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Victoria - Georgia Strait

Our day begins with a slow and soothing ferry across the Georgia Strait, for a visit to Vancouver Island and the capital city of Victoria. This charming smaller city on the southern tip of Canada’s largest island maintains it’s former British past, with plenty of pubs and traditional high tea at the Empress Hotel on the waterfront. We will spend the afternoon visiting the beautiful harbor area with it’s tall ships and colonial buildings. In the early evening, we will head north along the Pacific coastline to arrive in Tofino in time for sunset on one of Canada’s most beautiful beaches. We stay overnight in this coastal paradise. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Tofino

We start early today with a walk along the beach for the morning misty light along the beach. If we are “lucky” the weather will be rough, and allow us to experience what this area is famous for; storm chasing. This part of Vancouver Island looks best when the storms are approaching and the light is filtered through the clouds, silhouetting the surfers on the large waves offshore. In the afternoon, we will hike one of the many trails along the coastline that have old growth trees that are thousands of years old. (B)

Thursday (5)  Whistler

In the morning, we sail back across the strait, and head north to Whistler. This mountain village was the cohost for the 2010 Winter Olympic games, and is both a sports haven and a hiker’s paradise. Even in the summer months, Whistler is popular for visitors to experience the wilderness at it’s most stunning. The gondolas run year round, taking hikers up to the peak of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains for views that can’t be beat. The Peak 2 Peak tram that spans the 3 km between the two peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains is the highest and longest gondola in the world, and is a highlight of any visit, year round. In the evening, after dinner at one of the many world renowned restaurants in Whistler Village, we will have a chance to review and discuss the photography that all of us have taken over the last 5 days. We will explore techniques and share ideas. (B)

Friday (6)  Whistler

During the day today, we will hike the mountains and forests of this region, focusing on the flora that appears briefly in the short summer months in the alpine meadows. In the summer, local black bears can be spotted on the mountainside, and we will walk the trails of the old growth forest, viewing their feeding grounds and daybeds, along with a qualified guide. In the evening we settle in for our “Farewell Dinner”, filled with lots of fun and laughter as we discuss the weeks adventures. (B) (D)

Saturday (7)  Whistler - Vancouver

During and after brunch, we have a chance to exchange contact information and share some of the photographs we’ve experienced over the past 6 days. In the afternoon, we take a relaxing trip back to Vancouver by train along the Sea to Sky coastline. Some of the most breathtaking scenery along this part of BC can only be seen by train, and is a fitting finish to a wonderful week in the most beautiful part of Canada. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
