Experience biblical ruins and crusader fortresses in the Holy Land.

Israel Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

For the adventurous photographer seeking something different, Northern Israel offers some of the most fascinating sites in the world. Beautiful coastlines, biblical sites, ancient ruins, stunning areas of natural beauty, fauna and flora, remnants of Israel’s war-torn history, and some of the most diverse people found anywhere can be found here - Israel has it all.

Our Israel Adventures are run by an experienced, multi-lingual Israeli photographer who will guide you to the most photogenic sites specifically selected for maximizing your time available in this marvelous country. The tour is designed for beginners and advanced amateurs, with an emphasis on creative travel photography techniques. Our Israel North Photo Adventure is a prefect compliment to our Israel Photo Adventure which focuses on the southern half of the country.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilise and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. Israel, with all it has to offer, is a wonderful backdrop to learn and expand on your photographic skills.

Sunday (1)  Tel Aviv - Caesaria - Acre (Acco)

After some pleasant introductions on meeting our guests in Tel Aviv, we will head to Caesaria where we will enjoy our “Welcome Lunch” before our presentation of PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles to Great Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. After some informal discussions about what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques, we will head out for a pleasant afternoon of shooting in the ancient town of Caesaria. Caesaria's history dates back 2,300 years to the days of King Herod. Visiting the national park is like walking through a story, and wandering between the ancient buildings one can both sense how people lived here thousands of years ago and enjoy modern, contemporary experiences, such as the enthralling musical performances held in the beautiful Roman Theatre. We will walk along the city walls and around the towers, wander through the ruins of the castle and the various temples, visit the hippodrome, ancient port and the tiny artists’ square and explore the Roman aqueduct on the coastline before heading off.

From here we will continue up the coast and check in to our hotel in Acre [Acco] before heading out for some late afternoon shooting. This ancient crusader city is a UNESCO world heritage site, dating back to the 11th century. A visit to Acre is part of the Israeli experience. The city is a meeting place for East and West, new and old, beauty and ruins, all adding to its uniqueness. The fascinating history that has passed through the streets of Acre, the legacy left behind by its conquerors, the buildings that adorn the city and the places of worship built there are just part of the experience this city offers. Among the high-walled alleys and underground passages is a huge mosque and a Christian monastery, an inn and Turkish baths, halls built by the Knights Templar, with an extraordinary Templar tunnel and fascinating archeological findings. These are joined by intriguing museums and many churches, a row of hotels near the inviting beaches, a marina, restaurants and a picturesque fishing port. Magnificent architecture, set on the coastline appears almost intact. Acco offers an excellent blend of architecture, seascape, people and street photography. (L)

Monday (2)  Acre (Acco) - Rosh HaNikra

Monday begins with some morning street photography around more of Acco’s sites. The combination of low morning light and the locals starting out their day will make for some great environmental portraits and story-telling type shots. After lunch we will drive north to the Lebanese border to visit Rosh HaNikra. The gleaming white cliffs of Rosh HaNikra and the beautiful stretch of beach below are a magnificent sight to behold. This area is an idilic spot for swimming in the lagoons, or just lying on the beach and soaking up the sun. For the more adventurous photographer, there is the option of renting out kayaks to explore the area from the sea.

In the late afternoon, when the sun is lower, we will visit one of the highlights of the week - Rosh HaNikra’s stunning white cliffs and grottos [sea caves] carved out from the mediterranean sea. As you walk through the caverns carved out by the pounding waves of the Mediterranean, you’ll enjoy the myriad shades of the water and the dramatic play of light and shadow it casts. We will also ride the cable car along the cliff, offering panoramic views. Just behind the grottos is an interesting tunnel, dug by the British in 1943 for the Haifa-Cairo train route through Beirut, which we will also explore. This coastal area can make for some stunning sunset shots before heading back to our hotel in Acco. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Safed (Tzfat) - Hula Valley - Rosh Pina

On Tuesday morning we leave our hotel in Acco, and head to Safed (Tzfat), located in the Upper Galilee. Tzfat is a picturesque town of spiritual people and artists, wrapped in mysticism and mystery, and steeped in sacred atmosphere. One of the four holiest towns in Israel, it’s location is also the highest elevation, and commands wonderful views over the Galilee and Mount Hermon. With the grapevines growing up the arbors of its stone houses, the decorated iron gates, the beautiful panorama that is visible from the verandas, and the winding cobblestone alleyways, is like strolling through a painting.

In the afternoon, we head to our next stop. The Hula Valley is the resting place for hundreds of thousands of migrating birds who follow the Jordan Rift Valley on their journey between Europe and North Africa. Storks, cranes, pelicans and flamingos are a familiar sight. The Hula Lake and Agamon Hahula attract birds and water fowl all year round and you can also see water buffalos roaming wild and many species of aquatic plants. This area is exceptional for bird photography and nature lovers.

After visiting the Hula Valley Nature Reserve, we will head to our second hotel, located in the picturesque town of Rosh Pina. One of the oldest Moshavot in Israel, Rosh Pina has aged gracefully over the past 120 years. The old houses in the heart of the Moshav have been beautifully preserved as have their cobblestone streets. In the evening, you will be encouraged to select your favorite images taken so far, and edit them for a group critique the next day. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Golan Heights

On Wednesday, we head up to the Golan Heights, Israel’s mountainous northern region, is one of the most beautiful and most traveled parts of the country. There are wonderful scenic treasures alongside lovely nature reserves, historic and archeological sites. The beauty of the Golan is so captivating that some visitors return here again and again to enjoy the sights. For the history buff, the Golan is a region of endless fascination. Prehistoric sites and megalithic edifices, whose purpose remains a mystery, are dotted through the hills and valleys; Hellenistic towns, Roman fortresses and Crusader castles stand guard over the roads and ancient highways of the Golan. The Golan is the place where Jesus sought his last moments of peace before embarking on his final journey to Jerusalem.

Our day will include visiting remnants of the 1967 6-day war within the Golan Heights. Battle-scarred buildings, deserted towns and rusting military equipment within surrounding fields of spring flowers are testament  o the conflict that occurred here. On 10 June 1967 the Six Day War, against all odds - Israel’s greatest military victory, came to an end. At the end of our day, we will return to our hotel in Rosh Pina where we will enjoy an evening group critique of your favorite edited images to date. (B)

Thursday (5)  Sea of Galilee (Kineret) - Hammat

On Thursday we head to the Kineret, or the Sea of Galilee. The Kineret is Israel’s largest fresh water reservoir, and is also the country’s largest and most important source of drinking water. The Kineret played an important role in the early years of Christianity and has now become a pilgrimage site for many Christians. According to Christian tradition, Jesus lived, preached and performed miracles in the Kineret and the surrounding region. It was here that he was said to have walked on water. Located at Kibbutz Ginosar, this museum has a separate hall housing the so-called “Jesus boat” – a 2,000-year-old craft of eight meters long that was discovered in the 1980s when a drought in Israel caused the water level in the Kineret to fall dramatically. One of the most beautiful sights along the Sea of Galilee is the Greek orthodox church of the 12 apostles. Built in 1925 by the Greek orthodox church, it’s red-domed roof has an interior of beautiful Greek icons. Our day will also visit the ancient town of Hammat, where you will find the hottest mineral springs in Israel, as well as a spa. Here we will also visit an magnificent mosaic floor within a synagogue that was built in 341 A.D. Thursday evening includes our “Farewell Dinner” at one of our favorite restaurants in the Old Quarter of Rosh Pina. Here we will discuss our past week’s adventure, images that stand out and why, as well as an introduction to post-processing techniques. (B) (D)

Friday (6)  Gan Hashlosha (Sachne). - Tel Aviv

On our last day, we will check out of our hotel and head south to Gan Hashlosha (Sachne). It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Israel. Located in the Lower Galilee, some believe that Gan Hashlosha is the real-world location of the garden of Eden, and, once you visit, you might understand why. The main highlight of Gan Hashlosha are its beautiful pools shaded by lush palm trees and surrounded by green lawns. This is a beautiful site to unwind after a wonderful week of photography. This would be the end of our adventure, and we will share contact information before bidding you farewell in Tel Aviv. We urge you to extend your stay in Israel or elsewhere in the Middle East and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)
