Lake Tahoe

Bonsai Rock, Emerald Bay, Eagle Falls and Zephyr Cove

Join us for 3 amazing days exploring the jewel of the High Sierra.

Lake Tahoe Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Blessed with sparkling natural beauty, and having been selected as in the most popular destination in the United States, Lake Tahoe is considered the jewel of the High Sierra. The lake is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. At 6,229 feet above sea level, Lake Tahoe is the highest lake of its size in the United States, measuring 22 miles long by 12 miles wide, has a surface area of 191 square miles and an average depth of 989 feet and 72 miles of shoreline. Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the United States, with a maximum depth of 1,645 feet, trailing only Oregon's Crater Lake.

We will guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape and approach your environment. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. If you love photographing landscapes, seascapes and nature, Lake Tahoe is about as beautiful as it gets!

Please note: Our photography guide will always be on the look-out for interesting images during our photo adventure and for this reason, our itineraries are always subject to change. Weather plays a major role in capturing the best images possible. Changing light and weather conditions will always be assessed and changes in the schedule will be made accordingly. Flexibility, patience, and a sense of adventure are key to having a great time and capturing stellar photographs.

For your convenience we offer optional early arrival and late departure accommodations so you can extend your stay before or after the trip. We typically stay in boutique hotels in the 4-star category. Not all destinations offer these types of properties. We look for unique hotels which offer cultural, historic and/or authentic features. Depending on the size of the group, smaller boutique hotels may have limited room inventory. In some countries or in remote locations, we may be limited to lodges or branded chain hotels. Breakfast is included only if included in our room rates.

Day 1 | Bonsai Rock

We meet in the morning at our hotel where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. During our “Welcome Lunch” we will have a discussion on what our guests would like to achieve through their photography style, technique and subject matters. After lunch, we will set out on a photographic journey of Lake Tahoe. Weather permitting, we may offer you the option of a doors-off helicopter photo tour of Lake Tahoe (fee applies). In the evening we will travel to Bonsai Rock for we hope will be a breathtaking sunset shoot. (L)

Day 2 | Emerald Bay - Eagle Falls - Sand Harbor

On day two we are up early to photograph the sunrise on Emerald Bay. In 1969, Emerald Bay was designated a National Natural Landmark for its brilliant panorama of mountain-building processes and glacier carved granite, and in 1994 Emerald Bay was designated an underwater state park. After our sunrise shoot we will focus on long exposure techniques at Eagle Falls. During our lunch back at the lodge we will review images. For our second sunset shoot we will head to Sand Harbor, followed by night photography on Donner Lake. (B)

Day 3 | Zephyr Cove - Emerald Bay

Today we will visit Zephyr Cove for a sunrise shoot. Afterwards we will focus on landscape and nature opportunities before the sun gets too high. In the afternoon we drive the shore and focus on daytime long exposure shots with pretty blue and green backdrops. In the evening we take our last sunset shot before heading back to South Lake Tahoe for our “Farewell Dinner”. (B)

Day 4 | Zephyr Cove

On our last day we will visit Zephyr Cove again for a sunrise shoot. After a morning of photography we will return to our hotel for breakfast, some final reviews of your work and bid you farewell. We urge you to extend your stay in California and make good use of everything you learned on our Lake Tahoe Photo Adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
