Photograph the world’s most popular city destination.

Paris Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Paris, the world's most popular city destination, has plenty of must-see places to photograph, but wandering off the beaten path is the only way to discover the real Paris: a lively cosmopolitan but undeniably French city. The center of Paris is divided in 20 arrondissements with the majority of the world famous attractions (Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysées, Louvre, Panthéon, Notre-Dame) situated in the first 8 arrondissements. The Seine River with its left and right banks and bridges, cuts through the heart of the city. Paris derived its name from the Gallic Parisii tribe. Earlier, during the Roman Empire, it was known as Lutetia. Paris acquired its present day name towards the end of the Roman era. Paris is renowned world over as the “The City of Light” (La Ville-lumiere). The city was given this name because of its early adoption of street lighting. For all these reasons and more, photographing Paris during the day or night, and especially at night in the rain, makes Paris one of the most beautiful cities in the world to photograph.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the magical city of Paris!

Sunday (1)  Paris

We meet on Sunday at our beautiful hotel in Paris where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques. From here we will set out for a wonderful day of photography throughout this amazing city.  In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Parisian restaurants. (D)

Monday (2)  Latin Quarter

On day two we explore the hidden gems of the Latin Quarter, as well as Notre-Dame and the Panthéon. Here, we will apply our focus to street people and shop owners, as well as the impressive architecture that surrounds us at every turn. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Champs-Elysées - Eiffel Tower

On day three, we set out to explore the Champs-Elysées and Louvre areas, looking to capture the architectural beauty and manicured gardens. Since there is so much to see in Paris, we’ll look to blend together the obvious (monuments) and less obvious (back streets and grit) so you get a nice collection of photos depicting Paris.  After dinner we will spend the evening photographing the Eiffel Tower and street scenes at night in this magnificent “city of lights”. If it rains, all the better because Paris is even more beautiful at night when it’s wet and rainy. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Canal Saint Martin - Belleville

Wednesday is a day dedicated to the secret neighborhoods of Paris. With its footbridges arching gracefully over a canal that feeds into the Seine River, the Canal Saint Martin area offers equal parts greenery, lyricism, and urban grit. One of Paris' oldest streets, Rue Montorgueil is a vibrant, cheery quarter bursting with some of the city's finest food markets and pastry shops. Nestled between Montparnasse and Chinatown on the left bank is a hilly, well-hidden quarter whose narrow, winding streets, tiny houses, and art nouveau architecture recall a Paris of another era. And Belleville – home to one of Paris’s lively Chinatowns, a burgeoning artist quarter and a dizzying array of cultures. (B)

Thursday (5)  Versailles - Paris

On Thursday morning we offer an optional excursion to the Palace of Versailles, just outside the city and dating back to 1662. The gardens remained largely unchanged from the time of Louis XIV, who died in 1715. These gardens, as well as the palace and the village, provide us with great photographic opportunities. Upon our return to Paris, we will concentrate on photographing the rail and metro system before returning to our hotel. In the evening we will prepare for our wonderful Parisian “Farewell Dinner”, with great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Friday (6)  Paris

On day six, we set out early for some street photography and then our final group discussion, review our past weeks photos, trade contact information and bid you farewell. We urge you to extend your stay in Paris or elsewhere in France and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends
