Prague is one of the most beautiful historical sights in all of Europe.

Prague Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, which used to be joined with Slovakia until the two separated into distinct sovereign states in 1993. The Old Town square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its ancient buildings and magnificent churches, is one of the most beautiful historical sights in Europe. The square dates back to the 12th century and started life as the central marketplace in Prague. Today it is full of houses and churches built in centuries past in different architectural styles - Romanesque, Baroque, and Gothic creations all tell a different story. The most notable sights: Old Town Hall Tower and the Astronomical Clock, Tyn Church and St. Nickolas Church. We will also photograph the Jan Hus statue. For a stunning view over the square, we will climb the Old Town Hall Tower.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the magical and breathtaking city of Prague.

Saturday (9)  Prague - Wenceslas Square - Vitava River Cruise

We begin our day discussing PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “The Art of Seeing” photographic technique. During a group lunch we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve with their photography. In the afternoon we will walk down famous Wenceslas Square, which lies at the heart of the New Town. “New Town” was laid out in 348 by Charles lV. We can also photograph the National Museum and the Prague State Opera if it interests you. In the evening we will enjoy our “Welcome Dinner” on a river cruise down the Vitava River. (B) (D)

Sunday (10)  Prague - Karlovy Vary - Charles Bridge

After an early morning sunrise shoot, we depart for Karlovy Vary, the most visited spa town in the Czech Republic. It was named after the King of Bohemia and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles lV, who founded the city in 1370. There are 13 main springs and about 300 smaller springs with a temperature of about 72 degrees Celsius. The spa has been visited by many rulers and artists, including Goethe, Chateaubriand, Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms and Dvorak. The city is also known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. We will visit the Becherovka Museum, the Moser glass shop and the Thun porcelain shop. In the evening we will photograph the famous Charles Bridge at sunset. (B)

Monday (11)  Prague - Prague Castle - St. Vitus - Charles Bridge

After breakfast we’ll visit Prague Castle, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world. The ceremonial changing of the guard, which includes much fanfare, as well as a flag ceremony, will give us great opportunities to capture some lovely photos. We will stop at St. Vitus Cathedral, which is located at the Prague Castle. It is the largest and most important church in Prague. The cathedral is the burial place of former Czech kings and a home to the Czech crown jewels. There are magnificent views of the whole city from this vantage point. On our way back to Old Town we will walk across and again photograph Charles Bridge and immerse ourselves in the atmosphere by watching street artists sketching and listening to musicians playing. Our “Farewell Dinner” will be at one of Prague’s most well-known breweries. (B) (D)

Tuesday (12)  Prague

On Tuesday after breakfast, we have our final group discussion, review our past weeks photos, trade contact information and say goodbye at check-out. We urge you to extend your stay in Prague or elsewhere in Europe where you can practice all the photography skills you learned on our photo adventure. (B)
