Description

A photograph that “evokes emotion” is one that stops you in your tracks, takes your breath away, gets you to say “wow’, “I love it”, or even makes you cry. It could be a long exposure of a waterfall, a revolution unfolding before you, a Tuscan sunrise, or simply capturing a beautiful child’s innocence.

Some of these images may have been planned or envisioned. Some may even have been extremely difficult to capture, while others seemingly just fell into your lap. For Michael, it’s been all of the above. A great photo is a photo that “evokes emotion”. Nothing less. If it doesn’t accomplish this, then it’s just a photo. Your goal should always be to strive for great photos.

This lecture will take you into Michael’s mind, and how he sees the world in front of him. How he imagines an image before or while he’s taking it. As Michael puts it, “I usually know the minute I’ve clicked a great image. I can feel the adrenaline racing through me. I can already hear the people saying “wow”, even though the image is just a digital file in the little black box that I carry in my hand”.

As the lecture unfolds, Michael will take you through the editing process for many of the images. He will deconstruct them from original image to the final image, explaining the editing process. He’ll discuss the story behind the image, the location, the camera and lens choice, filters (if any), settings, and shooting technique.

Please join us on this two day adventure. We are sure you will leave feeling inspired, challenged and excited about what will unfold when you apply Michael’s “evoking emotion” techniques to your photography.

About Michael

A New York based photographer, creative director and businessman, Michael has traveled the world photographing people, urban and street, architecture, landscapes, motorsports, aerial and fashion. He enjoys the challenges that various photographic disciplines present. He has helped design and build many of PWA’s photo adventures. Michael manages the company’s private photo adventures for select guests around the world. As an artist, he is currently pursuing a ongoing visual storytelling project titled “Vanishing Cuba” which includes images from his 22 trips (and counting) to Cuba. The “Vanishing Cuba” coffee table book, containing over 250 pages of images and stories will be available in late 2019.

Michael was introduced to photography by his father at the young age of 11. Using his dads WWII Argus C3 and a basement darkroom, he began his love affair with the camera. Although Michael spent his early years in marketing and design, and at the helm of his own NYC based ad agency for 25 years, he also founded New York’s first digital photography studio “Icon Digital” in 1995, utilizing Hasselblad medium format cameras and Leaf digital backs. He is the father of four beautiful children including one son who is an accomplished cinematographer.

When Michael isn’t on assignment, in the studio or on an adventure, he can be found traveling the world searching for unique photography opportunities, exceptional hotels, amazing restaurants or maybe creating your next travel adventure.
